Presenter: Jonna McHugh, assistant director, Engineering Career Center, UIC
Abstract: In this session, students will learn the basics about different career paths for graduate students, including academia, industry, and national labs. The presenter will also share some tools for conducting an effective job search such as identifying appropriate job postings and how to build a professional network of connections. Strategies for interviewing with employers successfully, including sample interview questions, will also be reviewed. Interests and challenges of international student job seekers will also be addressed throughout the presentation.
Speaker bio: Jonna McHugh is the assistant director of UIC's Engineering Career Center (ECC). She advises students who come to UIC's Engineering Career Center (ECC) seeking tips on career-related topics, like resumes, searching for a job/internship, interviewing, networking, LinkedIn, salary negotiation, and exploring different career paths. She also works with employers who actively recruit students at UIC and helps the ECC team plan events like career fairs and employer info sessions. Prior to working with the ECC she worked as a recruiter hiring employees in multiple industries.
