Engineering with single electrons trapped on liquid helium

Speaker: Elena Glen, EeroQ Quantum Hardware

Abstract: Learn about daily life as an engineer at an early stage tech startup and the key scientific techniques and challenges involved with developing electrons-on-helium devices at EeroQ. Glen will share her journey from an academic lab to a quantum computing company, and how her experiences both inside and outside of her graduate program have shaped her career.

Speaker bio: Elena Glen received her PhD in quantum engineering in 2022 from the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering under David Awschalom. Her dissertation work focused on improving readout techniques of optically active spin defects in silicon carbide. Glen's served as an analyst intern at ARCH Venture Partners in Chicago during her graduate studies, where she was exposed to the world of tech commercialization and startups. Glen works as a quantum engineer at EeroQ Quantum Hardware in Chicago, where she combines her passion for R&D, business strategy, and science communication to help EeroQ develop scalable quantum processors using electrons on superfluid helium.
