Adina Luican-Mayer is a condensed matter experimentalist who joined UIC in Fall 2025 from the University of Ottawa, where she was faculty for 10 years. Her work was pioneering in the use of scanning tunneling microscopy to study two-dimensional materials, specifically twisted graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides. She directed the NSERC Quantum CREATE MaQTech graduate training program and the NSERC Quantum Alliance Consortium in Programmable Quantum Simulators in 2D materials, and served as Interim Department Chair of the Physics Department at the University of Ottawa. She was a staff scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. She is a member of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Experimental Physics Investigators program, and a recipient of the CIFAR Quantum Materials Fellowship, the Ontario Early Career Award, and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Science Research Award.
