Mazumder receives Chancellor's Translational Research Initiative Award
Distinguished Professor and Robert Uyetani Professor of Engineering Sudip K. Mazumder received a Chancellor’s Translational Research Initiative Award from the university’s Office of Technology and Management for a project that will assist in electrosurgery.
The CTRI program provides up to $25,000 to help prepare early-stage projects with high commercialization potential for licensing and startup opportunities or future funding opportunities that support commercialization.
Successful completion of the CTRI program increases the likelihood of a project receiving funding through UIC’s Proof of Concept award program.
Mazumder said the funding will lead to fabrication and validation of a novel integrated, very high frequency precision-power electrosurgical generator prototype that demonstrates stable multi-mode operation.
Mazumder is the director of the Laboratory for Energy and Switching-Electronic Systems. He is a fellow of the IEEE, AAAS, and AAIA.
He has more than 33 years of professional experience, has held R&D and design positions in leading industries, and has served as a consultant for several industries. At UIC, his research has yielded 62 sponsored-research projects, over 330 publications, including several prize and feature article papers, 17 patents, one book, 13 book chapters, and over 130 keynote, plenary, distinguished, and invited presentations.
Mazumder received the prestigious 2023 IEEE Ramakumar Family Renewable Energy Excellence Award. At UIC, he has been the recipient of UIC’s Distinguished Researcher Award (2020), Inventor of the Year Award (2014), and University Scholar Award (2013). Earlier, he also received the U.S. Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (2005) and the U. S. National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2003).
