Toward Scalable Design in Superconducting Quantum Technologies

Abstract: Quantum computing is moving forward quickly, and superconducting qubits are proving to be one of the most promising platforms thanks to their scalability and ease of control. At the same time, quantum amplifiers are becoming essential for improving signal quality and enabling precise readout operations. They help boost quantum signals while keeping noise in check. Still, designing these systems isn’t straightforward. Engineers face tough challenges like integrating many components, managing noise, and fine-tuning performance. In this talk, I’ll share how Quantum EDA tools—built specifically for quantum circuits—can help tackle these issues. These tools support simulation, verification, and optimization, making the design process more manageable. By addressing these hurdles, Quantum EDA brings us closer to building reliable and scalable superconducting quantum systems, which are key to advancing quantum computing and information technologies.

Speaker bio: Mohamed Hassan leads the Quantum EDA segment at Keysight, where he focuses on developing design solutions for emerging quantum technologies. With over two decades of experience as an RF engineer, he has worked on some of the most demanding electromagnetic challenges—from optimizing superconducting cavities for particle accelerators to advancing superconducting qubits for quantum computing and sensing. His work spans both theoretical design and hands-on prototyping, including ultra-low temperature testing of cavities and qubits. Mohamed is deeply familiar with a wide range of electromagnetic and multiphysics EDA tools, and his current role involves driving innovation in the fast-evolving Quantum EDA space. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 technical papers and reports, holds two U.S. patents, and is a senior member of IEEE as well as a member of the American Physical Society.
